Where to Find the Password Setting

Password changes are handled in Account Settings. Log in to your dashboard, navigate to Account Settings, and look for the Security or Password section. You'll see your current password listed as masked characters, with a "Change Password" option.

Steps to Change Your Password

Changing your password requires confirming you know the current password first. This prevents unauthorized changes if someone gains temporary access to your logged-in session.

  1. 1
Go to Account Settings → Security

From your dashboard, open Account Settings and navigate to the Security section.

  2. 2
    Click "Change Password"

Select the Change Password option. A form will appear with three fields.

  3. 3
    Enter your current password

Type your existing password in the Current Password field. This confirms you are the account owner.

  4. 4
Enter and confirm your new password

Type your new password, then type it again in the confirmation field. Both must match exactly.

  5. 5
    Save

Click Save Password. Your password is updated immediately. You'll receive a confirmation email to your account address notifying you of the change.

Password Requirements

TrackMyDebtor enforces a minimum password length to ensure accounts are reasonably protected. At a minimum:

  • Passwords must be at least 8 characters long
  • There is no maximum length restriction — longer is better
  • Letters, numbers, and special characters are all accepted

Meeting the minimum doesn't mean a password is strong. See the tips below.

Tips for a Strong Password

Your TrackMyDebtor account contains sensitive judgment data. A weak password is the most common way accounts get compromised.

Good practice
  • Use a long passphrase (16+ chars)
  • Let a password manager generate it
  • Use a unique password for this site
  • Mix letters, numbers, symbols
Avoid these
  • Reusing a password from another site
  • Using your name or company name
  • Short dictionary words
  • Obvious sequences (abc123, qwerty)
Tip

Password managers like 1Password, Bitwarden, or Dashlane generate and store long random passwords for you. You don't need to remember them — just remember your master password. This is the most practical way to use strong, unique passwords everywhere.

Can't Remember Your Current Password?

The change-password flow requires your current password. If you can't remember it, you cannot use this path — use the Forgot Password flow instead.

From the login page, click "Forgot password?" and follow the steps to reset via your email address. See I Forgot My Password — How Do I Reset It? for full instructions.

What Happens to Your Session After Changing

After you successfully change your password, your current session remains active — you will not be signed out automatically. Other existing sessions (for example, if you're also logged in on another device or browser) may or may not be invalidated depending on system configuration.

If you changed your password because you suspect unauthorized access, we recommend signing out of all other sessions manually. See Signing Out of Your Account for instructions on how to do this from each device.

Your PIN Is Separate From Your Password

Your password controls login access to your account. Your security PIN is a separate 6-digit code that gates sensitive actions within the account. Changing your password does not change your PIN, and changing your PIN does not change your password. They are independent credentials.

For more on the PIN, see What Is the Security PIN and Why Do I Need It?
