How to Update Your Payment Method

  1. Log in and go to Account Settings
Sign in to your dashboard at /login and navigate to Account Settings from the top navigation.
  2. Click "Manage Billing"
In the Billing section of Account Settings, click the "Manage Billing" button. This opens the Stripe Customer Portal in a new tab. The button is only visible when you have an active subscription.
  3. Find the Payment Methods section
In the Stripe Customer Portal, scroll to the Payment Methods section. You'll see your currently saved payment method with options to add a new one or update the existing one.
  4. Add your new payment method
Click "Add payment method" and enter your new card details (or use Apple Pay / Google Pay if your device supports it). Once added, set the new method as the default for future charges.
  5. Confirm the update
Your new payment method is now saved. Stripe will use it for all future subscription charges. You can optionally remove the old payment method if you no longer need it on file.

Which Payment Methods Can Be Set as Default

Any of the supported payment methods can be saved and set as your default in the Stripe Customer Portal:

  • Credit and debit card — Visa, Mastercard, Amex, or Discover. This is the most universally supported option for recurring subscription billing.
  • Apple Pay — available as a saved default on supported Apple devices. Charges will be applied to your linked Apple Wallet card.
  • Google Pay — available as a saved default on supported Android and Chrome environments.
  • Stripe Link — if you have a Stripe Link account, you can link it as your default. Link stores your card on Stripe's side for fast authentication.

When the Update Takes Effect

Updating your payment method in the Stripe Customer Portal takes effect immediately for purposes of the saved method — Stripe will use the new method the next time a charge is attempted. If your next renewal date is coming up soon, the new method will be charged at renewal.

If your payment recently failed and you've updated your payment method, Stripe will retry the charge automatically on its retry schedule. See What Happens If My Payment Fails? for the full retry timeline and how to expedite resolution.

Tip

Update your payment method before your card expires rather than after a failed charge. You'll receive your card issuer's standard expiry notification — use that as your reminder to update the method in the Stripe Customer Portal before the renewal date.

Security of the Update Process

The entire payment method update process takes place within Stripe's hosted Customer Portal. TrackMyDebtor.com does not handle, transmit, or store your card details at any point during this process. The Stripe Customer Portal is served from Stripe's own domain and infrastructure, under their PCI-DSS Level 1 certification.

When you add a new card in the portal, Stripe tokenizes it immediately and returns only a token to associate with your subscription. Your raw card number is never visible to TrackMyDebtor.com.
